Between Howard and User on IB Feed and Differences |
| 19:35 Acqua: question
is, is it possible to access historic data prior to the current quarter
knowing that IB uses the contract symbol of the quarter while esignal
uses a generic symbol for the whole year?
19:35 @Ensign_H: acqua, you can download continuation files for daily from my web site so you have long term files like esignal 19:36 @Ensign_H: see web site help page, topic Data Library 19:36 Acqua: as far as the data I have collected so far using esignal - is it possible to convert it if I decide to go the IB route now? 19:37 @Ensign_H: all files you now have can be used with IB 19:37 Acqua: so, bottom line, I'll have access to all historic data (either my files or yours) if I change data feed provider from esignal to IB? 19:39 @Ensign_H: yes acqua, but there are differences 19:39 Acqua: what differences? 19:39 @Ensign_H: you can keep your eSignal account and just change data vendor selection to IB on Setup | Connection and give IB a try to see if you like it 19:40 @Ensign_H: IB does not send the same tick count as eSignal so that impacts constant tick charts and the tick refresh we have for IB is 1 day only, not 6 days like eSignal 19:41 Acqua: so, would the graphic display come different using either data feed? 19:41 @Ensign_H: graphic display is the same 19:42 Acqua: what would be the drawback with the minor tick count from IB? 19:42 @Ensign_H: only drawback is if you use constant tick charts having fewer ticks means you build bars more slowly. Some IB users compensate for that by using smaller count size for the bar. Esignal user might have 300 tick bar and IB equivalent is to use 200 tick count bar. 19:44 Acqua: ok 19:44 @Ensign_H: here is what we see is different...... esignal will send 3 ticks at an equal price with tick volumes of 10,3,2 - where as IB will send 1 tick a this price with equivalent volume of 15, so constant volume charts are the same, and price range charts are the same but constant tick bars will count 3 ticks for esignal feed and IB will count 1 tick 19:46 @Ensign_H: in comparison, esignal has the highest tick count per day, then DTN satellite = IQFeed, then IB is the least 19:46 Acqua: looks like IB is not a good option for the time being 19:46 @Ensign_H: do not know where qfeed.com fits into the spectrum 19:46 Acqua: I understand the concept, i'm just not very clear in the effect on the outcome on the chart itself 19:47 @Ensign_H: effect is the number of bars for a constant tick chart you collect per day. 19:47 Acqua: a 100 constant tick chart using esignal may have less volume than IB because of the "compressed" ticks? 19:47 @Ensign_H: no volume will be the same - volume is not lost 19:48 @Ensign_H: in my example for tick volume of 15, whether reported in 1 tick or as 3 ticks of 10,3,2 the volume is still 15 19:48 @Buffy2: many use the IB feed with great success - others have tried it and gone back to esignal or other feeds 19:49 Acqua: yeas, I think I understand the example, does it mean that one bar in the tick chart using esignal would have more volume than using IB? 19:50 @Ensign_H: no volume will be identical - tick count is what is differing 19:50 @Ensign_H: tick volume is all accounted for on both feeds 19:50 Acqua: constant tick means it will count lets say 100 tick to create one bar, correct? 19:50 @Ensign_H: yes - and that equivalent may be 60 tick count on the IB feed 19:51 Acqua: so using your example, using esignal, for building one bar i'm only missing 97 ticks while using IB I'm missing 99, correct? 19:52 @Ensign_H: I did not follow your example 19:53 Acqua: having a 100 tick chart - each bar is formed by 100 ticks 19:53 @Ensign_H: in my example 100 esignal ticks might have 2000 volume and 60 IB ticks covering same time period will have same 2000 volume 19:54 Acqua: ok, it's the same thing, I just didn't word it properly 19:54 @Ensign_H: ok think we understand each other on this difference in feeds 19:54 @Buffy2: night Howard thanks 19:55 MauiTerry: aloha Howard thanks 19:55 Acqua: if I want to try IB tomorrow, I know where to go to change the data feed, but fdo I have to do something else to use the historic data? 19:56 @Ensign_H: no, can use it right now - right mouse click and select refresh popup menu 19:56 Acqua: k, thanks a lot Howard 19:56 @Ensign_H: bye |
